History

Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins were introduced in stages, with the first coins available in 1989 being the 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold weights. In 1991, the 1/10 oz gold coin was introduced, followed by these 1/2 oz gold coins in 1994. The most recent addition was the 2014 release of the 1/25 oz gold coin. Originally intended as a 25^th-anniversary option, it proved so popular that the Austrian Mint has continued to issue it. Like many coin collections, the Philharmonic 1/2 oz Gold Coin has seen various swings in demand. The highest recorded mintages were 101,500 coins in 2015 and 94,700 in 1994 (debut), while the lowest recorded mintage was 20,085 coins in 2006.
