The Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coin is a prominent series of gold bullion coins available to investors. This series boasts 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/25 oz gold coins. Four of these five coins debuted before the 2002 shift from Austrian Schillings to the common Eurozone currency, the Euro. Issued by the Austrian Mint, the series is a favorite with investors.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual protective plastic flip, a tube of 10 gold coins, or a mint-sealed box of 100 gold coins!
  • 33rd year of release for the Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold coins!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure gold in BU condition.
  • The face value of 100 Euro is backed by Austria.
  • On the obverse is the Great Organ in the Golden Concert Hall.
  • The reverse side depicts a collection of musical instruments.
  • Art from Thomas Pesendorfer.

When the Austrian Mint introduced the Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins in 1989, only a 1 oz and 1/4 oz gold coin were available. In 1991, the 1/10 oz gold coin was introduced and was followed by the 1/2 oz gold coin in 1994. These primary four options were introduced before the adoption of the Euro as the common currency of the member nations in the Eurozone economy. As such, these coins initially had values in Austrian Schillings. Starting in 2002, the coins adopted new face values in the Euro currency. The 1/25 oz gold coin was introduced in 2014 and never had a face value in Austrian Schillings as a result.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 2021 Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Coins, you will find an image of the Great Organ. This large pipe organ is found inside of the Golden Concert Hall, a venue also known as the Musikverein. The venue is where the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs in the capital city and it is located in the Innere Stadt neighborhood of Vienna. The inscriptions on this face of the coin are in German, the official language of Austria, and read Republik Osterreich, 1 Unze Gold 999.9, 2021, and 100 Euro.

Reverse

The reverse face of the 2021 Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coins includes a depiction of various musical instruments. Those musical instruments include a cello in the center, two violins on either side of the cello, a French horn in the left background, a bassoon right behind the cello, and a harp in the right background field. The inscriptions on this side read only Winer Philharmoniker.

History

The highest mintage figures recorded in the Austrian Philharmonic 1 oz Gold Series came in 2008 and 2009 at the onset of the Great Recession. 715,842 coins were sold in 2008 and a record 903,047 coins in 2009. The most recent releases have seen sinking demand, with the 2019 release selling 164,312 coins.
