In 1987, the Royal Mint of England introduced the British Britannia Series with gold bullion options. From that first year, four options were available to gold buyers in the form of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins. Since then, these four coins have been issued each year. Today, you have the opportunity to buy 2021 British Britannia 1/2 oz Gold Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Royal Mint proudly introduces four new security elements on the reverse field of the 2021 British Britannias. These new enhancements are present on several coins in the 2021 release, including the 1 oz silver, 1 oz gold, 1/2 oz gold, 1/4 oz gold, and 1/10 oz gold coins. The latent security mark and background field feature animations that change as you move the coin around. Within the security mark, the visual changes between a locked padlock and a trident head. The background animation features rolling waves on the sea. The Union Jack flag on Britannias shield now has tincture lines and there is a micro-text inscription on the ring surrounding the central design field.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2021 British Britannia 1/2 oz Gold Coins is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Designed in 2015 by Jody Clark, this visual is the fifth-generation effigy of Her Majesty to grace British coins. This image of the Queen at the age of 89 is surrounded by inscriptions of 50 Pounds, Elizabeth II, and D.G. Reg. F.D. The design element and inscriptions are set against a background field with a guilloche element.
Reverse
The reverse field of the 2021 British Britannia Gold Coins comes with an image of Britannia. Associated with the British Isles since the era of Roman occupation, Britannia has graced British coins since the late-17th century. This effigy from Philip Nathan was designed in 1987 and casts Britannia as a powerful defender of the realm. Wearing her Corinthian helmet, she stands guard with a trident to bend the waves of the sea to her will and a shield to defend the homeland. Inscriptions on this side include Britannia, 2021, and 1/2 oz 999.9 Fine Gold. The micro-text inscription is in Latin and reads Decus Et Tutamen, which translates to English as An Ornament and a Safeguard.
History
The British Britannia Gold Coins were available in the aforementioned four weights from 1987 to 2012. In 2013, the Royal Mint boosted the gold content of the coins and added the 5 oz and 1/10 oz gold options as well.
