Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse side of 2021 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/2 oz Gold Coins. This bust of Her Majesty comes from Susanna Blunt and was created for the Royal Canadian Mint in 2003 as the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen for Canadian coins. This design includes radial lines in the background field with inscriptions of Elizabeth II and 20 Dollars 2021.

Reverse

A sugar maple leaf is featured on the reverse of the 2021 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins. Designed in 1979 by Walter Ott, this image of the sugar maple leaf was created for the debut of this series. It captures the natural wonder and detail of the sugar maple leaf, with inscriptions included that read Canada, 9999, and Fine Gold 1/2 oz Or Pur.

History

Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins debuted in 1979 with only 1 oz gold available, but expanded over the decades to offer investors four fractional-ounce coins and a 1 Gram gold option as well. The 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz coins debuted in 1982, these 1/2 oz gold coins in 1986, the 1/20 oz gold coin in 1993, and the 1 Gram gold coin in 2014. The only coin ever removed was the 1/15 oz gold coin offered only in 1994 to mark the 15th anniversary of the series debut.
