History

Eight different designs are featured each year of release for the EC8 silver coin series. Each design represents one of the eight island nations of the Eastern Caribbean, including Grenada, Antigua, and Barbuda, Anguilla, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. All nations besides Anguilla are founding members of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States. 2021 is the fourth year that the Scottsdale Mint has manufactured and distributed coins in this series.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2021 Colorized EC Dominica 1 oz Silver Coin BU shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, created by coin designer Ian Rank-Broadley. This profile portrait was created in 1998 and has been used in the production of many coins created under the Commonwealth. Her Majesty has been featured on coins from Australia, New Zealand, and Britain. The obverse also shows the weight, value, and purity of the 2021 coin, as well as two inscriptions: QUEEN ELIZABETH II and EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2021 Colorized EC Dominica 1 oz Silver Coin BU features two imperial Amazon parrots. This species, also known as the Sisserou, is the national bird of the island nation of Dominica and is considered to be highly endangered. On the 2021 coin, the Sisserou are colorized, and the coins release year and the countrys inscription are shown above the two parrots.
