The ship that went down in history as the HMS Bounty was first christened as the Bethia when it was built at Blaydes Yard in Hull, Yorkshire, England. The ship was built to serve as a private merchant vessel. When the Royal Navy purchased the ship in 1787, it paid a total of 1,950 Pound sterling for the ship. It was retrofitted with four 4-pound cannons and ten swivel guns along its decks.

History

The HMS Bounty set sail on its maiden voyage for the Royal Navy in December 1787. The crew of the Bounty eventually launched a mutiny when the Bounty was set to leave Tahiti, steering the ship to Pitcairn Island where it was burned and scuttled.
