The HMS Bounty is one of the most infamous Royal Navy vessels and one of the most well-known sailing vessels of any nation from the last 300 years. The HMS Bounty began life as the humble Bethia and was used for merchant trade between the British Isles and Western Europe. Just six years after it was built, the HMS Bounty was burned by mutineers from its own crew and scuttled off the Pitcairn Islands half a world away. Today, you have the chance to buy the new 2021 Cook Islands Bounty 1 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with an individual plastic flip, a tube of 20 coins, or a box of 500 silver coins!
  • Beautiful image of the HMS Bounty!
  • Contains 1 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver in BU condition.
  • The face value of 1 Dollar is backed by the Cook Islands.
  • On the obverse is a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse features an image of the HMS Bounty.

The HMS Bounty was purchased by the Royal Navy in 1787 and refitted for a special scientific expedition to Tahiti. The ship was scheduled to sail to Tahiti to recover breadfruit plants in hopes of transplanting the plant species to plantations in the British West Indies as a cheap source of food for indentured servants and slaves serving on those plantations. The ship never completed its mission.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2021 Cook Islands Bounty 1 oz Silver Coins is a right-profile effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara on her head. The design, created in 1998, is flanked by inscriptions of Elizabeth II, Cook Islands, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse field of the 2021 Cook Islands Bounty Silver Coin features an image of the HMS Bounty. The ship was originally built in 1784 in the Blaydes shipyard near Kingston-upon-Hull in England. The ship served for nearly four years as a merchant vessel before the Royal Navy purchased it for 1,950 Pound sterling, the equivalent of 210,000 Pound sterling in 2016 money. Inscriptions read 1 Dollar and 1 oz Fine Silver .9999.

History

After the mutineers on board the HMS Bounty took over the ship in a largely bloodless coup, the first priority of the ship and the mutineers was to get away from the reach of the Royal Navy. The mutineers sailed the Bounty through the region around Fiji and the Cook Islands. Eventually, the mutineers and their Tahitian captives settled on Pitcairn Island, an island misplaced on British charts and deemed ideal for remaining undetected. The HMS Bounty was burned and scuttled in the bay at Pitcairn Island in 1790 to hide any trace of the mutineers.
