One of the world’s best-known dog breeds is native to Dalmatia, in the Republic of Croatian. The Dalmatian dog is famous for its speed and stamina, grace and alertness, and having an ideal companion personality for both humans and horses. Provident Metals is delighted to offer a distinctive commemorative coin featuring this iconic breed: the 2021 Croatia Dalmatian Dog 1 oz Gold Coin recently issued by the Croatian Mint and the Croatian National Bank.
Establishing the Dalmatian dog breed as the first subject of the Autochthonous Croatia series, the 2021 Croatia Dalmatian Dog Gold Coin is part of a set of exclusive limited mintages designed to appeal both to the dedicated collector and the savvy investor with its pure gold content and distinctive artwork and design. Provident Metals ships this coin to you fully insured against the unlikely possibility of damage or loss, in a themed box and protective case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Noted sculptor Nikola Vudrag created the Dalmatian dog profile portrait that dominates the obverse, its signature spots arrayed to suggest the shapes of the coastal islands of Croatia. A map of the Croatian mainland and a sea wave pattern combine to form the backdrop, joined by a coat of arms, “1000 kuna” in Cyrillic, and the official national name “Republika Hrvatska.”
A gracefully posed pair of Dalmatian dogs are featured on the coin’s reverse, their standing and sitting postures each invoking the sleek lines characteristic of the breed in their own way. The image is accompanied by inscriptions of the breed’s Croatian and Latin names, “Dalmatinski Pas” and “Canis Dalmaticus,” along with the year of issue “2021.”
The International Cynological Federation used historical records and images to confirm the Dalmatian as autochthonous to Croatia in the year 1994. This breed first attained popularity with coach drivers on the highways of Europe, where they proved to be excellent companions for humans and highly-alert guard dogs who could consistently defend against diversionary tactics and distractions from bandits. Subsequently, in America, they became the iconic dog of firehouses in the days when firefighters used horse-drawn carriages. They continue to be popular in the modern world.
