History

The EC8 coin program from the Scottsdale Mint features eight different designs for each year coins have been released. Every design has been manufactured to represent all eight island territories of the Eastern Caribbean. These eight island nations include Grenada, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Each nation is a legal tender of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, and their designated coins have rich new designs and lower mintages.

Obverse

The obverse of the 2021 EC8 Dominica 1 oz Gold Coin BU shows the original portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. This profile portrait has been used on many coins minted around the world, including nations under the Commonwealth like Australia, New Zealand, and Britain. The obverse of the 2021 coin also shows its value, weight, and purity, as well as two different inscriptions: QUEEN ELIZABETH II and EASTERN CARIBBEAN CENTRAL BANK.

Reverse

On the reverse of the 2021 EC8 Dominica 1 oz Gold Coin BU, two Imperial Amazon parrots, also known as the Sisserou, are seen. The Sisserou is the national bird of Dominica and is considered a highly endangered species, with an estimate of only 50 mature individuals left.
