The George Washington Quarter is one of the longest-running coin designs in American history. Only the 1909 Lincoln Penny has featured some of the same design elements since its original release. The George Washington Quarter was redesigned in 1932 and has maintained the same obverse since. Though the coins are now produced with a cupro-nickel alloy, there is still reason to seek these coins out as collectible pieces. Right now, you can buy 2021 George Washington Zenith Black Ruthenium Quarters online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of these 2021 George Washington Zenith Black Ruthenium Quarters from Provident Metals, you will receive a circulation US quarter that is inside of an acrylic capsule. The coin comes with a small display stand that allows for the upright display of the coin and capsule. A Certificate of Authenticity is available with each coin. In this beautiful release, these circulation quarters have been enhanced with a layer of 24-karat gold in the background field and Black Ruthenium on the design elements on the obverse and reverse.
Obverse
President George Washington is found in the obverse design of the 2021 George Washington Quarter. This left-profile portrait was created for the quarter in 1932 by John Flanagan and introduced on the coins that same year to mark the 200th anniversary of Washingtons birth. The inscriptions on this face read Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021.
Reverse
In the all-new reverse design of 2021 George Washington Quarters, General Washington is shown on a rowboat leading his 2,500 Continental soldiers across the Delaware River to attack Trenton, New Jersey. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, Quarter Dollar, and Crossing the Delaware.
History
On Christmas Day, 1776, General George Washington led a force of 2,500 Continental soldiers across the Delaware River. The operation took all night and enabled his troops to attack the Hessian mercenaries guarding Trenton, New Jersey, on the morning of December 26th. The maneuver gave the Continental Army regulars the upper hand as the Hessians had spent Christmas night celebrating the holiday.
