Obverse
The obverse of 2021 Jesus Praying in the Garden Biblical Series Silver Coins features an image of Queen Elizabeth II. This portrait of the Queen was created in 1985 by Raphael Maklouf for the Royal Mint. The design shows Her Majesty in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem on her head. Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2021 Jesus Praying in the Garden Biblical Series 2 oz Silver Coin is a depiction of Gustave Dores image of Jesus praying in the garden. The design shows Jesus in the background field with his arms at his side and his face looking up toward the heavens. In the foreground, the three apostles who accompanied him have fallen asleep as Jesus prays. The inscription on this side includes only JESUS PRAYING IN THE GARDEN.
History
The moment that Jesus prays in the garden appears in all four of the canonical gospels. In the gospels of Mark and Matthew, the garden is said to be located in Gethsemane. In all of the gospels, this moment occurs between the Last Supper and Jesus arrest courtesy of Judas who gave him up to the Romans.
