Available as of 1964, the JFK Half Dollar coin was the last major circulation coin redesigned by the United States Mint and remains the largest coin by format still in production. As the largest coin available and one with a very low production level compared to smaller denominations, these legal tender pieces are ideal for private mints to use in producing commemorative versions of the coin with colorizations and/or clad layers applied. Provident Metals currently has 2021 JFK Half Dollar Black Ruthenium Coins available to you for purchase online.
When you purchase this 2021 JFK Half Dollar Black Ruthenium Coin Set online at Provident Metals, you will receive a coin set that has two individual coins. The 2021-dated coins include one with a P mint mark from the Philadelphia Mint and one with a D mint mark from the Denver Mint. The coins are housed inside of protective capsules and have individual stands for upright display. Each set comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
President John F. Kennedy is found on the obverse side of 2021 JFK Half Dollar Coins in this two-coin set. The left-profile portrait was designed in 1962 by Gilroy Roberts, then the 9th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. Inscriptions read Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021. The D and P mint marks are located beneath the bust of President Kennedy and above the date mark.
A modified version of the Presidential Seal is featured in the reverse of the coins in the 2021 JFK Half Dollar Black Ruthenium Coin Sets. The design shows a front-facing bald eagle with the US national shield, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace. There is a ring of 50 stars around the design element. The inscriptions include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Half Dollar.
The JFK Half Dollar was introduced in 1964. It replaced the Franklin Half Dollar design that had been in production since 1948. The changeover from the Franklin Half Dollar design to the Kennedy Half Dollar was the fastest in US history at just four months. This was helped in large part thanks to the existence of acceptable designs. The US Mint opted to use the bust of President Kennedy and a modified Presidential Seal from the Kennedy Presidential Medal designed in 1962.
