The Morgan Dollar Silver Coin was issued by the United States Mint from 1878 to 1904 and one final time in 1921. Over the course of these years, five branch mints contributed to the coining of the Morgan Dollars. Only two mints issued the coins in every one of these years. The New Orleans Mint had the next-best track record, missing out on coining in only the first year (1878) and the final year (1921). Right now, you can buy certified-perfect 2021 O Privy Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the 2021 O Privy Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you receive a silver bullion coin in perfect condition. Mint State 70 coins exhibit full, original mint luster and have no detractions present on the design strikes or fields of the coin. The Early Release designation means the coins were received for grading within 30 days of release from the mint. These coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint and issued an honorary O privy mark on the reverse to celebrate the New Orleans Mint and its coining of Morgan Dollars.
Obverse
Liberty is found on the obverse side of 2021 O Privy Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This left-profile effigy of Liberty was created specifically for the Morgan Dollars in 1878. It features Liberty with the laurel wreath and coronet crowns on her head. There are 13 stars on the border field of the coin, with seven to the front of Liberty and six behind. The inscriptions here read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY on the coronet, and 2021.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle features on the reverse of 2021 O Privy Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. George T. Morgan also created this design for the coin series with a smaller bald eagle and no US national shield included. The bird is in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The birds head looks to the left of the coin, its right, toward the olive branch. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR. The O privy mark is found beneath the wreath, above the D and O in DOLLAR.
History
The New Orleans Mint had the second-longest track record of Morgan Dollar production behind only the Philadelphia Mint and the San Francisco Mint. The latter two mints issued Morgans from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. The New Orleans Mint issued Morgans from 1879 to 1904, missing the debut year and the one-time strike in 1921.
