As the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Series gets underway in 2021, the US Mint is facing a tall task in meeting demand. The mint will, at some point in 2021, shutdown coining to transition dies to the new reverse design. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic continues and demand remains high for the coins. Investors will notice that 2021 releases already include San Francisco Mint and Philadelphia Mint releases, the latter providing its second emergency batch of American Eagles in as many years. Right now, you can buy 2021 (P) American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals in near-perfect condition.
Highlights:
With your purchase of 2021 (P) American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins from Provident Metals, the items you receive have a PCGS certification. Mint State 69 coins are considered near-perfect specimens and exhibit full, original mint luster with no more than two minor detracting flaws present. To qualify for this grade, those flaws cannot exceed two in number, must be located outside the primary focal points of the coin, and are limited in nature to either minuscule contact marks or hairlines.
In addition to the MS69 grade, these coins have a First Strike label. This indicates a coin that was received by the PCGS for grading within 30 days of the initial release date by the United States Mint.
Obverse
Walking Liberty can be found on the obverse side of 2021 (P) American Eagle Silver Coins. This design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman for the US Mint and used on the US half dollar. The image features Libertys left-profile figure walking toward the sun with the American flag draped around her figure. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021.
Reverse
For the final time in its history, the 2021 (P) American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin depicts the heraldic eagle on the reverse. This design was modernized for this series in 1986 by John Mercanti, the former 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. The design depicts the bald eagle supporting the US national shield with its talons clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace. Inscriptions on this field include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Silver – One Dollar.
History
The release of coins at the Philadelphia Mint in 2020 and 2021 was considered an emergency release by the US Mint. It is required by law to issue BU American Eagle Silver Coins to meet the demand of investors. The challenge of meeting high demand while also working with lower staffing levels due to COVID-19 has resulted in the need for not only supplemental coining at the San Francisco Mint, but also emergency issues from the Philadelphia Mint.
