In 1878 when the United States Mint first issued Morgan Dollars, the Carson City Mint was one of three branch mints striking the coins for circulation. In 1921, Morgan Dollar production ceased after one final year in production. Now in 2021, the US Mint marks the centennial of the final Morgan Dollar release with five commemorative Morgan Dollar silver bullion coins. Provident Metals is pleased to offer 2021 (P) CC Privy Morgan Dollar Silver Coins to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase 2021 (P) CC Privy Morgan Dollar Silver Coins at Provident Metals, you receive coins housed in beautiful packaging from the US Mint. Each coin is housed in a capsule and set within a black presentation box that includes a Certificate of Authenticity from the US Mint. Each one was struck by the Philadelphia Mint with a commemorative CC mint mark in honor of the Carson City Mint.
Obverse
Lady Liberty features on the obverse side of the 2021 (P) CC Privy Morgan Dollar Silver Coin. Designed in 1878 by George T. Morgan, this left-profile portrait of Liberty shows her wearing a cap on the back of her head with a wreath crown and coronet at the front of her head. There are 13 stars around the design with E Pluribus Unum above and 2021 below.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle of the United States is found on the reverse of 2021 (P) CC Privy Morgan Dollar Coins. This 19th-century design shows a front-facing bald eagle with an olive branch in one talon and the arrows of war in the other talon. Inscriptions on this side read United States of America, In God We Trust, and One Dollar. The commemorative CC privy mark is located above the D and O in the word dollar and below the wreath.
History
Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were struck from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. The 1921 release featured coins struck only in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The Carson City Mint, a purpose-built branch using silver from mines throughout the American West, issued Morgan Dollars from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 until its closure in 1893. The Carson City Mint issued the lowest number of Morgans of any branch mint and, as it turned out, most ended up never going into circulation. Vast hoards of original CC-Morgan Dollars were discovered in US Treasury vaults in the 1960s.
