The left-profile portrait of President Kennedy depicts the 35th President of the United States in a design from Gilroy Roberts, the 9th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint. President Kennedys bust on this side is covered in the clad layer of 24-karat gold. Inscriptions include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021. There is a small P mint mark beneath Kennedys portrait and above the date mark.

Reverse

A modified version of the Presidential Seal of the United States is featured on the reverse of 2021-P JFK Black Ruthenium Half Dollars. The depiction of the eagle features the US national shield, the olive branch of peace, and the arrows of war. This design was created by Frank Gasparro, the man who would go on to become the 10th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint in 1965. The inscriptions on this face read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Half Dollar.

History

The Kennedy Half Dollar design is the eighth version of the 50-cent piece issued by the United States Mint. The very first design on the coins was the Flowing Hair bust of Liberty issued in 1794 and 1795. As of 2017, the Kennedy Half Dollar design is the longest-running image combination in the series.
