The Pobjoy Mint was one of many to celebrate the centennial of the Morgan Dollar and Peace Dollar Silver Coins from the United States Mint. The Morgan Dollar was first issued in 1878, with its last issue in 1921 from January to late December. The Peace Dollar was issued for the first time in December 28, 1921, with annual production running through 1928 and subsequent issues coming in 1934 and 1935. The centennial of these two brilliant coins featuring in the same year came in 2021. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a design exclusive to the Pobjoy Mint. This design field includes the Queen with the George IV State Diadem. The field includes inscriptions of BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS, QUEEN ELIZABETH II, and 2021.
Reverse
On the reverse face of 2021 Proof British Virgin Islands Morgan and Peace Dollar Black Pearl 1 oz Silver Coins is a depiction of the Lady Liberty effigies from the Morgan Dollar and Peace Dollar Silver Coins. George T. Morgans effigy of Lady Liberty is in the foreground, with Anthony de Franciscis image of Liberty in the background. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LAST MORGAN DOLLAR and FIRST PEACE DOLLAR, as well as $10.
History
Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were issued by the United States Mint from 1878 to 1904. After a 17-year hiatus, the design returned in 1921 and was issued until December 1921. On December 28, 1921, the US Mint issued the first of the new silver dollars with the Peace Dollar design.
