The statue was made in 1910 to mark the centennial of the start of Mexicos war of independence, and later added to the Mexican Independence Victory Column in 1921 to mark the centennial of the wars end. The figure shows a winged figure of the historic goddess Victoria. She holds a laurel wreath in her right hand, with broken chains in her left hand. The inscriptions on this side include 1/2 ONZA, ORO PURO, 2021 LEY .999, and the OM mint mark of the Mexican Mint.

Reverse

The reverse field of 2021 Proof Mexican Libertad 1/2 oz Gold Coins features the national coat of arms of Mexico. This seal features a golden eagle with its wings flexed as it battles a serpent. This all plays out on the branch of a prickly pear cactus with a wreath of oak and laurel. The inscription above the design reads ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
