Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II is found on the obverse of 2021 Proof Faberge Twelve Monograms Egg 16.81 Gram Silver Coins. You will also find a generic Faberge egg design containing a gift inside. Per tradition, each Faberge egg had a hollow center with a surprise hidden there. Youll also find inscriptions on the obverse that read ELIZABETH II, NIUE ISLAND, 1 DOLLAR, 2021, AG .999.
Reverse
The Twelve Monograms egg is featured on the reverse of 2021 Proof Niue Faberge Egg 16.81 Gram Silver Coins. The surface consists of royal blue enamel divided into panels with bands of rose cut diamonds. Each individual panel contains diamond-set ciphers of Emperor Alexander III and his wife Maria Feodorovna. Colorized portraits of Maria and her son Nicholas II are included on the reverse as well. You will also find the inscription FABERGE IMPERIAL EGGS.
History
While the original Twelve Monograms egg is intact, its surprise in the center is missing. However, historians suspect the surprise originally consisted of six miniatures of Alexander III mounted with sapphires. This egg was given to Nicholas II in 1896, who in turn presented it to his mother, Maria Feodorovna. The egg itself is a tribute to Alexander III, who was Emperor of Russia from 1881 until 1894.
