History

The Independent State of Samoa has issued several high-quality collectibles in tribute to the Muppets of Sesame Street, iconic puppet characters who have been a part of childhood for generations of viewers. One of the most widely recognized of these characters, the Cookie Monster made his debut in 1971 with the song “C Is For Cookie,” still one of the best-known songs to originate on the show and of the few Sesame Streetsketches to be directed by Jim Henson himself. The character evolved over the years, eventually acquiring a family, the given name Sid, and even a slightly more nuanced approach to his favorite food in order to better promote healthy eating for children, but has always retained his signature devotion to the cookie.
