History

The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah descends from the Southern Paiute people and Ute Indians from the Colorado River basin regions on the western end of the Rocky Mountains. The Paiute people living in Utah are among a broad group of Paiute that did not have interactions with Europeans or other outsiders until 1776 when Spanish missionaries came through the region looking for land routes from Mexico and modern-day Texas to missions in what is now California.
