In 2021, the United States Mint made an important update to the American Eagle Silver and Gold Coin programs by introducing new reverse designs. Because of this change, two reverse designs were issued on the 2021 American Silver Eagle coins: the longtime original design and a newly created image. To recognize the transition, the mint released a special 2-Coin Designer Set with both versions struck in reverse proof. Coins graded PR70 by PCGS show full mint luster and no visible flaws. The First Strike label indicates the coins were delivered to PCGS for grading within the first 30 days following their release.

Obverse

On the obverse of the coins in the 2021 Reverse Proof American Eagle 2-Coin Designer Set is the Walking Liberty design. Originally created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this image first appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and continues to serve as the obverse of the Silver Eagle series. The inscriptions here read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse designs in this 2021 Reverse Proof Eagle Silver 2-Coin Designer Set highlight the transition in 2021. The Type 1 coin displays John Mercantis heraldic eagle, while the Type 2 coin presents Emily Damstras new soaring eagle design. History

The new reverse design for the Silver Eagle was selected in 2020. After reviewing more than 35 different concepts, the mint chose Emily Damstras detailed image of a bald eagle in flight. Damstra has contributed to projects for both the Royal Canadian Mint and the United States Mint and participates in the US Mints Artistic Infusion Program.
