Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II features at the center of the 2021 Royal Australian Mint Year of the Ox Silver Coin. This effigy of Her Majesty shows the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem with a lovely necklace. The immediate ring around her effigy includes inscriptions of Elizabeth II, Australia 2021, and 1 Dollar. The outer design rim includes a Zodiac wheel with each of the 12 animals from the Zodiac. As the Year of the Mouse just passed, it has moved to the left of the Queen with the Year of the Ox represented at the top-center with the bull ox.
Reverse
A bull ox is depicted on the reverse side of 2021 Royal Australian Mint Year of the Ox 1 oz Silver Coins. The ox is shown amidst a stylized field that includes dirt beneath its hooves and willow branches hanging down. There is a circular element in the upper-right field with the symbol for ox and inscriptions of Year of the Ox and 1 oz .999 Ag.
History
The Year of the Ox always appears second in the Zodiac, as it appears second here from the Royal Australian Mint behind the Year of the Mouse. The Royal Australian Mint was founded in 1965 and is one of only two operating mints in Australia alongside the Perth Mint, the latter of which is owned by the state government of Western Australia.
