Proof American Eagle Silver Coins were issued in 2021 by the West Point Mint with both the original design in the Type 1 release and with the new design from Emily Damstra in the Type 2 release. The S-Proof American Eagle Silver Coin, however, was last issued in 2020 with the Miley Busiek design and was not issued with a Type 1 version in 2021.

Obverse

This left-facing relief shows Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon with her right hand outstretched, her left carrying branches of oak and laurel, and the American flag draped around her figure. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2021-S Proof American Eagle Silver Coin features an image of the American bald eagle. This new design from Emily Damstra shows the bird in flight as it swoops downward clutching an oak branch in its talons. The inscriptions on this face read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR, and the S mint mark from San Francisco.

History

The new design on the reverse of 2021 Proof American Eagle Silver Type 2 Coins comes from Emily Damstra. An accomplished coin designer, she has worked extensively with the Royal Canadian Mint and as a member of the US Mints Artistic Infusion Program. She already has major designs to her credit with the US Mint that include designs for the coins in the America the Beautiful Series.
