Obverse

Somalias coat of arms is found on the obverse field of the 2021 Somalia Elephant 10 oz Silver Coins. The design element you find here includes a crowned shield with a star on its surface and a background design with horizontal lines. The shield is flanked by leopards and supported from beneath by spears and fern leaves. There is a beaded border design element and inscriptions of Somali Republic, 20 and 21, and 1,000 Shillings.

Reverse

An adult African bush elephant is depicted walking toward the foreground in the reverse design of 2021 Somalia Elephant Silver Coins. This design is exclusive to the coins available in the 2021 release of the Somalia Elephant. The massive land mammal is shown with its signature tusks and trunk, as it flaps out its ears. Above its head, you will find a bird flying high above with the leaves of a tree offering some shade. The distant background is dotted by trees as well. The inscriptions on this face read Elephant, African Wildlife, and 10 oz Ag 999.9.

History

The Somalia Elephant Series is much larger and far more diverse as of 2016 than it ever was from 1999 to 2003 as the Zambia Elephant and from 2004-2015 during the early issues of the Somalia Elephant. 2016 brought a new Somalia Elephant Platinum coin to the collection. The silver and gold collections have grown to include fractional ounces and, in the silver series, 2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz coins.
