Obverse

The obverse side of 2021 Somalia Elephant 2 oz Silver Coins features a design of the Somali coat of arms. The national seal includes a crowned shield with a background of horizontal lines and a single star overlaying the lines. The shield is supported on the sides by leopards, while crossed fern leaves and spears are shown beneath the crowned shield. With the beaded border field of the obverse surface are inscriptions of Somali Republic, 20 and 21, and 200 Shillings.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 2021 Somalia Elephant Silver Coins is an image of an African bush elephant. The bush elephant is the largest living land mammal in the world and one of three living elephant species. This years exclusive 2021 design for the collection shows a mature bush elephant in front-facing relief. The elephant is featured as it marches forward with its ears flapped out and its tusks pointed forward as it moves along. There is a bird flying overhead with the leaves a tree nearby, while the distant background is dotted by a tree on the savannah. The inscriptions include Elephant, African Wildlife, and 2 oz Ag 999.9.

History

In 2016, the Bavarian State Mint released the Somalia Elephant Silver Coins with .9999 pure silver for the first time. In 2017, six new weights were introduced, including the first-ever fractional-ounce silver coins in the collection. The new weights available from 2017 onward included 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz silver, as well as 2 oz, 5 oz, and 10 oz silver.
