Obverse

The obverse of 2021 Somalia Elephant 1 oz Silver Coins in this Two-Coin Set features the national coat of arms for Somalia. The Somali national seal includes a crowned shield with a single star at the center set against a background field of horizontal lines. Leopards support the shield on either side, with crossed fern leaves and spears below. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include Somali Republic, 2021, and 100 Shillings.

Reverse

On the reverse side of the 2021 Somalia Elephant Silver Coins in the Black-and-White Set is a depiction of the African bush elephant. The bush elephant marches into the foreground with its ears flapped out and its tusks pointing forward. The application of ruthenium is found only on this side, with each coin showing its own, distinctive visuals. One of the coins comes with ruthenium applied to the body of the elephant, leaving the tusks and the background field clear. The other coin has a full application of ruthenium in the background and on the tusks, while leaving the body of the elephant clear of additional applications. Inscriptions on this side read African Wildlife, Elephant, and 1 oz Ag 999.9.

History

The African Wildlife Series has been available from the Bavarian State Mint since 1999 when it was first known as the Zambia Elephant Series. In 2004, it became the Somalia Elephant Series and has only continued to grow since that time.
