The Queens Virtues Series is a new six-coin release celebrating the personifications of Victory, Truth, Charity, Justice, Courage, and Constancy established as symbols of the monarch during the reign of Queen Victoria. After her passing, King Edward VII commissioned a memorial in the Queens honor that celebrated these six virtues. The coins in this series are available with individual protective capsules when buying coins individually up to nine pieces. Multiples of 10 coins come in sealed sheets. Multiples of 50 are available in a Master Box that holds five sheets of 10 coins each.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2021 St. Helena Queens Virtues Victory Gold Coins is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Captured in right-profile relief, this design was created by Raphael Maklouf in 1985 and used on British currency through 1997. In the portrait, the Queen wears the George IV State Diadem Crown. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read 100 Pounds, St. Helena, Queen Elizabeth II, 2021, and One Ounce 9999 Gold.
Reverse
The reverse field of the 2021 St. Helena Queens Virtues Victory 1 oz Gold Coin offers a vision of the figure known as Victory. She is captured in left-profile relief, her right hand raised high in the air as her left hand carries a palm branch, an ancient symbol of victory and peace. The lone inscription on this face of the coin is that of Victory Through Harmony.
History
The Queens Virtues, as the six figures are known, are said to reflect the moral and physical character of the monarch. Victory is the primary figure in the Victoria Memorial, a memorial statue that includes a variety of gilded bronze figures and marble statues. Victory tops the memorial, with Constancy, Charity, and Courage beneath her. Around the base of the memorial, Justice and Truth are carved from solid blocks of marble.
