The island of St. Helena is a sparsely populated island in the Atlantic Ocean that is a British Overseas Territory together with Ascension and Tristan da Cunha. The remote island lies some 1,200 miles to the west of southwestern Africa and some 2,500 miles east of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The island was uninhabited for much of its history and today has a population of just over 4,500 people. Famous as the spot of Napoleons exile, St. Helena was also a major stopping point for East India Company vessels returning to Britain from the East Indies. Right now, you can get 2021 St. Helena Rectangular East India Company 10 oz Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

The East India Company was formed in 1600 and was known by many names throughout its history. These other monikers included Honourable East India Company, East India Trading Company, English East India Company, and later the British East India Company. The company was formed to facilitate trade between the home islands of the British Empire and the East Indies. By the mid-1700s and through the early 1800s, the East India Company accounted for half of the worlds trade revenue.
