The Guinea gold coin was first introduced in England in 1663 during the reign of King Charles II. It was initially valued at one pound sterling but later fixed at 21 shillings as the price of gold shifted. In 2021, the East India Company created modern Rose Crown Guineas using pure platinum. Now, the 2021 St. Helena Rose Guinea 1/3 Platinum Crowns are available through Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2021 St. Helena Rose Guinea 1/3 Platinum Crown is shipped inside a protective plastic flip. The coins are issued by the modern East India Company on behalf of St. Helena.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2021 St. Helena Rose Guinea Platinum Crown, you will see Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. This well-known portrait was created in 1985 by Raphael Maklouf and shows the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem. It remains one of the most widely recognized images of Her Majesty for its classic style and detail. Inscriptions include 25 (Pound), ST. HELENA, QUEEN ELIZABETH II, 2021, and THE EAST INDIA COMPANY.
Reverse
The reverse design of the 2021 Rose Guinea 1/3 Platinum Crown features a version of the Hanoverian coat of arms. This shield design dates back to the period when the House of Hanover ruled Britain. It is divided into four quarters, with the Three Lions of England and the Lion of Scotland in the top left, the French fleur de lis in the top right, the Harp of Ireland in the bottom left, and the White Horse of Hanover and other Hanoverian symbols in the bottom right. Inscriptions read 1/3 OUNCE, GUINEA, and 999.5 PLATINUM.
History
The original Guinea gold coins were named after the Guinea region of West Africa where much of the gold originated. These coins became the preferred currency for professional payments and luxury purchases in Britain. Even after the last guineas were issued in 1813 and replaced by the sovereign, the name guinea continued to be associated with high-value transactions well into the 20th century.
