Obverse

Walking Liberty is depicted on the obverse of the 2021-W Burnished American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin. Designed in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman, this vision of Walking Liberty shows her figure in left-profile relief as she walks toward the sun on the horizon with the American flag draped around her shoulders. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 2021. The inclusion of Weinman’s “AW” signature mark on this field brings the modern Walking Liberty design closer to the original visuals created in 1916 for the half dollar.

Reverse

In the reverse design of the 2021-W Burnished American Eagle Silver Coin, you will notice the all-new design released on 2021 American Eagle Silver Coins. The design shows a powerful bald eagle as it swoops into the coin field clutching an oak branch in its talons. The oak is a long-standing symbol of strength and durability. Inscriptions on this side read “United States of America,” “E Pluribus Unum,” “1 oz. Fine Silver,” “One Dollar,” and the “W” mint mark from the West Point Mint.

History

The new reverse design released in mid-2021 by the US Mint comes from Emily Damstra, a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program. Ms. Damstra has previously completed two designs in the America the Beautiful Series at the US Mint, as well as several designs for the Royal Canadian Mint.
