Obverse

The obverse of 2021-W Proof American Eagle Gold Type 2 Coins features the iconic image of Liberty. This front-facing image of Liberty was designed in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and features Liberty walking toward the viewer. With the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, she walks forward with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. There are sun rays behind her figure and a ring of 50 stars around the design field. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, 2021, and the W mint mark of the West Point Mint.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Type 2 Coins is an image of the American bald eagle. The eagle is shown in left-profile relief with great detail in its plumage and the hooked beak of the bird. The inscriptions on this field of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1/4 OZ FINE GOLD, and 10 DOLLARS.

History

The all-new design on the reverse was created by Jennie Norris. An outdoor enthusiast, Ms. Norris is a graphic designer and works at the University of Arizona. She is also a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program.
