The lowest-minted coin in the Proof American Eagle Gold Series is often the 1/4 oz coin. The 1/4 oz and 1/2 oz gold coins have the lowest demand each year in the series, resulting in the lowest mintage figures. When you combine the low original mintages with the certification process of the NGC, coins that come out with a perfect grade in this weight are limited in number. Today, you can get 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coin was one of the final two coins introduced in the collectible range of American Eagle Gold Coins. The 1986 debut of the series included only the 1 oz gold coin. The 1987 release came with the debut of the 1/2 oz gold coin. It wasnt until 1988 that the US Mint introduced the 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the 2021-W Proof American Eagle Gold Coin is a depiction of Lady Liberty. This effigy of Liberty debuted in 1907 on the Double Eagle Gold Coin and was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens. The image shows Liberty in front-facing relief with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read Liberty, 2021, and W for the West Point mint mark.
Reverse
The reverse field of 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins comes with the family of bald eagles. This design from Miley Busiek was created specifically for this collection and depicts a female eagle in the nest with a hatchling as a male eagle soars overhead. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include United States of America, In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and 1/4 oz. Fine Gold – 10 Dollars.
History
2021 marks the final appearance of the reverse design from Miley Busiek. It will appear on 2021-dated coins through midyear before being replaced by a new effigy of the American bald eagle for the remainder of the year.
