The release of the 2021 American Eagle Silver Coins from the United States Mint features Type 1 and Type 2 coins. To meet continued demand for the coins, the US Mint launched 2021-dated coins with the original Adolph A. Weinman obverse design and the John Mercanti reverse. After some 13 million coins were issued in the BU series, the US Mint halted production of BU and Proof coins to install new dies and begin striking the Type 2 designs with the new Emily Damstra bald eagle vision on the reverse.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2021 Proof American Eagle Silver Coins is the effigy of Lady Liberty. This design is known as Walking Liberty and comes with inscriptions of Liberty, In God We Trust, AW, and 2021.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 2021 Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin features the new design from Emily Damstra. The design shows the bald eagle swooping down into the design field with an oak branch in its talons. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and 1 oz. Fine Silver – One Dollar.

History

The release of 2021 Proof American Eagle Silver Coins comes with a new anti-counterfeiting measure and an enhanced obverse that is closer to the original 1916 design from Adolph A. Weinman. The reeded edge now has a variation element for security, while the initials of AW now feature on the obverse of the coins.

2021 Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are now available with a PF69 grade. Coins in this condition have full, original mint luster with no more than two minor flaws. These flaws are limited in nature to minuscule contact marks and hairlines that are located only outside the primary fields. UCAM designations are for coins with strong, frosted designs and deeply-mirrored, clear fields. Early Release coins are those that were received within 30 days of release.
