In 2021, the Proof American Silver Eagle reached its 35th anniversary and introduced an important update to the series. That year brought a new reverse design from Emily Damstra, replacing the original heraldic eagle for the first time in the programs history. The fresh flying eagle image marked a new chapter for collectors. Right now, certified 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coins are available at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
Each 2021-W Proof American Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin in this offering is graded PF70 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation and housed in a protective slab. The included West Point Star label highlights its origin at the West Point Mint. A PF70 grade represents a coin with full mint luster and no visible flaws. The UCAM designation indicates strong frosted design elements set against deeply mirrored fields.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2021-W Proof American Eagle Silver Coin displays Adolph A. Weinmans Walking Liberty. Liberty is shown moving toward the sun with the American flag draped around her shoulders. As of 2021, Weinmans signature is included on the lower right of the design. The inscriptions include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2021.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2021-W Proof Eagle 1 oz Silver Coin showcases Damstras bald eagle in flight. The eagle carries an oak branch as it descends. Inscriptions around the design note the coins weight, purity, and denomination. The inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DOLLAR, and 1 OZ. FINE SILVER.
History
In 2021, the U.S. Mint produced both Type 1 and Type 2 Proof Silver Eagles. Type 1 coins were struck through early June and featured John Mercantis heraldic eagle. Beginning in July, the Mint released the Type 2 version with Emily Damstras new bald eagle design. This change marked the first major reverse redesign in the series.
