Reverse

On the reverse of 2021-W Proof American Silver Coins is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. Modified for this series in 1986 by John Mercanti, the design shows the bald eagle with the US national shield on its chest. The bird clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons, with a cluster of 13 stars arranged in a tight triangle above its head. The inscriptions on this face of the coin include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, 1 oz. Fine Silver One Dollar, and a W mint mark from the West Point Mint.

History

2021 marks the final date in the series to include the heraldic eagle design. As part of the 35^th anniversary of the series, the US Mint is replacing the venerable design with a new, realistic depiction of the bald eagle.
