The 2022 release of American Eagle Gold bullion coins is a big step forward for the US Mint program. After sharing the limelight in 2021 with the final issue of the Miley Busiek design that graced the coins from 1986 to 2021, the new bald eagle design from Jennie Norris that debuted last year is now the only image you will find on the reverse of America Eagle Gold Coins. Highlights:
The new reverse design that debuted on the American Eagle Gold Coins in mid-2021 comes from Jennie Norris. A graphic designer, artist, and professor at the University of Arizona, Ms. Norris is a member of the US Mint Artistic Infusion Program.
Obverse
On the obverse side of 2022 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins is the iconic vision of Liberty. Taken from the 1907 $20 Double Eagle Gold Coin, this vision shows Liberty striding toward you with a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. This field includes the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, sun rays in the background, and a ring of stars around the design. Inscriptions include LIBERTY and 2022.
Reverse
The reverse face of 2022 American Eagle Gold Coins boasts the new Jennie Norris depiction of the American bald eagle. This design captures the head of the eagle in left-profile relief as its piercing gaze is fixed directly on you. Its physical characteristics are captured in great detail, from its hooked beak to its plumage. The inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD, and 25 DOLLARS.
History
American Eagle Gold Coins were issued from 1986 to June 2021 with a depiction of a family of bald eagles on the reverse. This was designed by Miley Busiek. That design has now been fully retired after the July 2021 debut of the new bald eagle effigy from Jennie Norris. 2022 is the first time that Ms. Norris design takes flight on its own.

2022 American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. Individual coins come in plastic flips, with multiples of 40 in tubes.
