Obverse
Lady Liberty is found in the obverse design of 2022 American Eagle Gold Coins. This work of art from 1907 was created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens at the behest of President Theodore Roosevelt who was seeking to overhaul American coin designs. The image shows the full-length figure of Liberty in front-facing relief as she walks forward. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include LIBERTY and 2022.
Reverse
An American bald eagle is shown on the reverse side of 2022 American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins. This new design from Jennie Norris shows the bald eagle in left-profile relief with its hooked beak, piercing gaze, and detailed plumage. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD 10 DOLLARS.
History
The original design on the American Eagle Gold Coin was created in 1986 by Miley Busiek and featured on the reverse of the coins every year until June 2021. At this point, the US Mint paused production to prepare for the release of the 2021 coins with the new Jennie Norris bald eagle design on the reverse.
