The coins in the American Eagle Platinum Series are available to you individually in plastic flips, in protective tubes of 20 coins, or in Monster Boxes of 100 platinum coins. The Monster Box holds five tubes of 20 coins each.
Obverse
For the obverse design of the 2022 American Eagle Platinum Coin, the US Mint features the head of the Statue of Liberty. The design focuses on the face of Liberty as depicted in the Statue of Liberty. Inscriptions on this field of the coin read LIBERTY, 2022, IN GOD WE TRUST, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Reverse
In the reverse design of 2022 American Eagle 1 oz Platinum Coins, the mint continues with the depiction of an American bald eagle in flight. This design was created by US Mint Assistant Engraver Thomas D. Rogers in 1997. The design shows a bald eagle as it soars into viewing gliding through the air with its wings fixed at full stretch. The design field includes inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, .9995 PLATINUM 1 OZ., and $100.
History
BU American Eagle Platinum Coins debuted in 1997 with the release of 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins. These weights were issued through 2008. In 2009, all four coins were suspended. The only one to return since that time is this 1 oz platinum coin, which returned in 2014, was not issued in 2015, and has been an annual release since 2016.
