The Five Doors of the Duomo di Milano are one of the most striking examples of high-relief monumental artwork in the world, a project begun in the 16th century that was finally completed by a group of sculptors in the Twentieth Century. These extraordinary multi-paneled reliefs’ discovery by a young French artist provided the inspiration for a truly extraordinary ballpoint pen illustration that used the Doors’ overall design and layout as the basis for a completely new artistic creation. That drawing, titled “Wild Scenery,” came to the attention of the masters at the Lithuanian Mint: and this extraordinary silver collectible was the ultimate result.
