One of the definitive discoveries of the Twentieth Century helped to shape and popularize the science of paleontology. It took place at Hell Creek, Montana in 1902, where the great fossil hunter Barnum Brown unearthed the very first recorded remains of the Tyrannosaurus Rex. A gigantic predator with four-foot jaws and six-inch teeth, the specimen couldn’t help but capture the imaginations of anyone who saw it, and its unique silhouette has been instantly recognizable ever since, starring in countless television shows, books, and movies. Its discovery is celebrated by a shaped pure silver collectible, the 2022 Antique Republic of Chad Tyrannosaurus Dissected 3 oz Silver Coin.
The 2022 Antique Republic of Chad Silver Tyrannosaurus Dissected Silver Coin features a shaped design and highly-detailed engravings enhanced by a beautiful antiqued finish. Fully insured by Provident Metals, each coin ships in a themed case with a unique Certificate of Authenticity.
The coin’s obverse side presents a “dissected” view of the dinosaur that shows its skeletal and muscular structure and bears inscriptions of the year, country of issue, and the face value at the core of its torso.
The reverse side is a vividly realistic sculpture of the dinosaur with its scaly hide intact. The inscription “Tyrannosaurus Dissected” appears on its tail.
The firstTyrannosaurus Rexskeleton was unearthed from a fossil bid so rich that excavations of its contents filled entire train cars. Paleontologists in the coming decades would find the greatest concentration of fossils in the northwestern United States and western Canada, particularly Alberta. Living at the very end of the Late Cretaceous between 90 and 66 million years ago, the great predator could grow to forty feet in length and twelve feet in height, and was one of those species of dinosaur that witnessed the end of the collective reign of the great reptiles after a cataclysmic asteroid impact. The visually distinctive nature of the “T-Rex” has made arguably it the most easily recognized of the dinosaurs by the modern public.
