Between 1910 and 1963, Australia issued florin coins inspired by older English designs. In 2022, a commemorative gold florin was introduced to recognize the history of this denomination, which traces its origins to 14th-century England. Right now, you can buy the 2022 Australian Florin 1/4 oz Gold Coin online from Provident Metals.

Each of these 2022 Australian Florin 1/4 oz Gold Coins is available in a plastic flip for safe handling. This modern release was created to honor the florin’s long-running legacy in both England and Australia. First introduced in England in 1344, florins were later issued in Australia until the countrys switch to decimal currency in 1966.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2022 Australian Florin Gold Coin displays the official effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This design, created by Jody Clark, was the final portrait of Her Majesty used on Australian and other Commonwealth coins. It shows her in right-profile wearing the George IV State Diadem. The inscriptions include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 1/4 OZ 9999 AU, 2022, and 25 DOLLARS.
Reverse
On the reverse of 2022 Florin 1/4 oz Gold Coins, youll find Australias national coat of arms. This symbol includes a kangaroo and emu supporting the national shield, with a Commonwealth star above. The design also features the year 1910 to mark the first release of Australian florins, along with the historic face value of One Florin – Two Shillings. The inscriptions read ONE FLORIN, TWO SHILLINGS, ADVANCE AUSTRALIA, and 1910.
History
The florins introduction in England came under King Edward III, who aimed to create a gold coin suitable for international trade. Modeled after the successful Florentine florin, the English version had a face value of six shillings. Its obverse featured the king seated on a throne, and the reverse was decorated with a cross design. The coin was short-lived and was soon replaced by a new denomination.
