Australian Kangaroo Gold Coins are available once again in 2022 with a new design for the year coming from Neil Hollis. His depiction of a small family unit of kangaroos graces the reverse of the 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz coins, while the historic image of a hopping kangaroo from Stuart Devlin remains on the 1 Kilo release in the series. The coins in the collection come with unlimited mintages in 1 Kilo and 1 oz, with set mintage limits for each of the fractional-ounce weights.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Gold Coins is the sixth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 2015 by Jody Clark, this portrait shows Her Majesty in right-profile relief. She is aged 89 in this depiction and wears the George IV State Diadem on her head. The inscriptions on this field of the coin read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse side of the 2022 Australian Kangaroo Gold Coin comes with an image of two hopping kangaroos. This family unit consists of one adult and its young joey hopping along a grassy plain with small hills in the distant background field. This side of the coin has inscriptions of 2022 1 OZ 9999 GOLD, KANGAROO, and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.
History
Modern Australian Kangaroo Gold Bullion coins now come with a security feature on the reverse field of 1 oz and 1 Kilo coins. This micro-laser engraved element consists of a single letter hidden within the field that is visible only under magnification. The unlimited mintage of the 2022 Australian Kangaroo 1 oz Gold Coin means the mint will issue the coins into 2022 until the point that the 2023 design is ready for production.
