Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a design that was initially created in 2015 for the Royal Mint of England. Introduced on Perth Mint coins in 2018, this effigy of the Queen came to Lunar Series coins in 2020 with the debut of the third lunar collection. The inscriptions on this field of the coin include ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 1/4 OZ 9999 AU, and 100 DOLLARS.
Reverse
A tiger is depicted in the reverse design of the 2022 Australian Lunar Tiger 1/4 oz Gold Coin. This design from Monique Reeves shows the length of the tigers frame as it stands along a rocky ledge. The beasts powerful frame is shown looking back over its shoulder and unleashing a roar, exposing its razor-sharp teeth in the process. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read only TIGER 2022 and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.
History
This is the third iteration of a Year of the Tiger release. Unlike previous releases, the design in the gold series is not limited to just the gold coins. While the silver coin in Lunar Series III releases is still unique to that coin, the debut of platinum bullion coins in the Lunar Series III collection meant a shared design across the gold and platinum collections.
