The Lunar Series III collection from Perth Mint started in 2020. This series is the third from Perth Mint in its range of lunar coins. The series follows the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, starting with the Year of the Mouse and ending with the Year of the Pig. The third release in the series is the Year of the Tiger. Highlights:
The 2022 Year of the Tiger release from Perth Mint comes with two distinct designs. This image of two tigers in the jungle was created by Jennifer McKenna and features only on the BU and proof silver coins. The other design is that of a lone adult tiger as created by Monique Reeves. This design is featured on the BU and proof gold coins, as well as the BU platinum coin.
Obverse
On the obverse of 2022 Australian Lunar Tiger 2 oz Silver Coins is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief with the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head. The Queen is aged 89 years in this portrait and it is the first Australian portrait of the Queen since 1966 to include her shoulders in the design field. The inscriptions on this face of the coin read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 2 OZ 9999 AG, and 2 DOLLARS.
Reverse
The reverse side of 2022 Australian Lunar Tiger Silver Coins features a depiction of two tigers. The design element on this face shows an adult tiger, confident and vigilant, as it walks through the jungle with its young cub following behind. While the adult is alert and watching its surroundings, the cub is playful on this walk through the jungle. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include the Chinese symbol for the tiger. Other inscriptions include TIGER 2022.
History
The 2022 Australian Lunar Tiger Silver Coins come with a micro-engraved security feature on the reverse. There is a small letter on the field that is only visible with the aid of magnification. This element is present on all silver bullion coins in the series, with the exception of the 10 Kilo coin.

These 2022 Australian Lunar Tiger 2 oz Silver Coins are available to purchase in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The coins are packaged individually in capsules or in boxes of 100 silver coins. These coins have an unlimited mintage, meaning Perth Mint will strike the coins until the next design in the series is ready for production.
