Obverse
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2022 Australian Wombat Silver Coins. This sixth-generation Australian effigy of the Queen was designed for the Royal Mint in 2015 by Jody Clark to serve as the fifth-generation portrait of the Queen on British coinage. This right-profile relief offers a vision of the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem. The inscriptions on this side read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, and 1 DOLLAR.
Reverse
A wombat is depicted in the reverse design on the 2022 Wombat 1 oz Silver Coin. This design shows the entire body of the wombat in left-profile relief. The inscriptions on this side of the coin include WOMBAT, 2022, 1 OZ 9999 SILVER, and the P mint mark of Perth Mint.
History
Wombats are marsupials like kangaroos, quokkas, and koalas. However, the genetic evolution of wombats is not fully understood just yet. Most scientists believe that wombats diverged from another species of marsupial as far back as 30 million years ago.
