This effigy of the Queen serves as the fifth-generation portrait of the monarch during her reign and was created in 2015 by Jody Clark. This design shows the Queen in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. The background field has a guilloche texture and the coin features inscriptions on this face that read 25 POUNDS, ELIZABETH II, and D.G. REG F.D.

Reverse

Britannia continues to grace the reverse of the 2022 British Britannia Gold Coins. This incredible portrait from Philip Nathan shows Britannia guarding the coast with a Corinthian helmet on and a trident in her right hand. While she is ready to defend Britain, she is prepared for peace as well, as you can see by the olive branch in her left hand as it rests on the shield. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include BRITANNIA, 2022, 1/4 OZ, and 999.9 FINE GOLD.

History

In 2021, the Royal Mint introduced four new security elements on the reverse of the coins. The wave lines in the background have a brilliant texture that creates the illusion of movement as you adjust your view of the coin. At the same time, youll notice the latent security image switch between a locked padlock and a trident head as you move the coin. The shield now features tincture lines, while a micro-text engraving surrounds Britannia.
