History

Maid Marian does not appear in the original Medieval tales of Robin Hood. Some of the earliest mentions of a character known as Marian appears alongside Robin in association with May Games festivals in the 15^th century. When Robin Hoods character is recast as a man of higher standing in society during the late 16^th century, the Marian character from May Games becomes Maid Marian and is given a more prominent place in the storyline.
