Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse of 2022 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in a design from Susanna Blunt. Designed in 2003, this is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen and just the second monarch portrait for Canadian coins that was created by a Canadian artist. The inscriptions on this field include ELIZABETH II, 10 DOLLARS, and 2022.

The sugar maple leaf is found on the reverse field of 2022 Canadian Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Gold Coins. This image of the maple leaf captures a detail vision of the sugar maple leaf that was created in 1979 by Walter Ott for the debut of this series. This design has been in use on the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins since 1979 and now proliferates across all gold weights, as well as the silver, platinum, and palladium coins. Inscriptions on this side read CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, and 1/4 OZ OR PUR.

Canadian Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Gold Coins were introduced in 1982, the fourth year of issue for the coins. At this point in time, the Royal Canadian Mint enhanced the gold purity of the coins from .999 fineness to .9999 fineness and added both these 1/4 oz gold coins and a 1/10 oz gold coin.
