History

The Klondike Gold Rush took place between 1896 and 1899 in the Yukon territory. As a result of the rush, numerous boomtowns sprung up in the region, the largest of which was Dawson City. Within two years, the population there grew from 500 to 30,000. In 1899, news of another gold rush in Alaska prompted prospectors to abandon Klondike for new opportunities and adventures. The indigenous people who occupied Yukon prior to the rush continue to feel its effects to this day.
